Primitive Engines Chapter 0: Gears of Adventure

The sun shined down brightly between the trees of the small forest outside of Edo City, the industrial center of the world of Darrein. A young blonde boy, Fayer, stepped quietly out of his home and into the warm light of the summer morning. He sheilded his eyes with his hand from the bright orange rays that were sometimes blinding.

"Another day, another adventure!" he whispered, his grey hoodie fluttering around in the sudden gusts of wind.

Just before he was about to leave, a small black dog jumped out of his home and into his dark denem jeans, pouncing onto his leg.

"Ace, you stay home for today, I'll be back soon," Fayer commaned, directing Ace back into the small house.

Ace slumped down and loyally walked back in through the door, jumping into his little doggie bed and laying his head to rest. Fayer smiled and shut the door, turing out the lights. He adjusted his large goggles on his forehead and reached for a wrapped object that lay against the outside walls of his house, strapping the long item to his back.

Fayer stared into the distance with his bright green eyes, wondering where he should go next. He looked down at his watch, hitting a few buttons. Suddenly, a hologram appeared with a 3D image of a motorbike, projecting from his watch. Fayer seemed to push the bike out of the hologram, as it enlarged and appeared before him.

Fayer instantly mounted the cycle, started it up, and drove away, letting it's red paint streak the air with speed.

It only seemed to have been an instant of time before he stopped at an old warehouse, torn up and rusting to pieces, just outside of Edo City.

"There's a Gearbot in there... I can smell it..." Fayer whispered to himself.

Gearbots are the remnants of the ancient war. They were originally robots made to be used as super soldiers, but they turned out obsolete and most of them were discarded. But, for some odd reason, these Gearbots have been popping up a lot lately and commiting crimes such as stealing machinery and money, or even killing important business men.

Fayer pushed the creaking doors open and took a few, short glances inside before inching his way between the doors. He could barely make out the shape of a heap of scrap metal in the back. Not knowing if his hunch had been correct, he ran his hand along the wall until he found a light switch and, in hopes that it still worked, turned it on.

Light flooded the large warehouse, revealing all kinds of trash and wires and cobwebs hanging around the place. The shakey walls seemed to moan with even the slightest wind, obviously ready to collapse at any moment.

Just as he turned from the switch, large bullet came flying through the air, only a few meters from his face. In that split second, his green eyes flashed red and his mouth spread open to inhuman porportions. He let the bullet fly right into his mouth, closed it, and swallowed.

Right then, the heap of scraps in the back shook a little, trembled, twitched, and then were sent flying across the room. Fayer spontaneously took the long object from his back, throwing the clothe off and revealing a long wrench-like weapon. He began to swat away any oncoming garbage with insane accuracy and strength.

"Ha! Found'ya!"

Where the heap was once placed, now stood a tall robot-like machine. The majority of it's plating had been torn or rusted away so that the gears on the inside could be seen turning. This, was a Gearbot.

The Gearbot was now right over Fayer, in just a flash, reaching for Fayer's head. But, Fayer was easily able to react by pushing his wrench onto the Gearbot's neck and jumping onto it's chest. He pinned the Gearbot to the ground and easily popped his screwed-on head off.

"Too easy..."

He then began to do what he always did when he found and killed a Gearbot: eat it. He ate everything, gobbled it down. Nothing was left but a few scraps to be added to the trash heaps lining the walls.

"That was good~ Gearbots always taste better after you beat them down yourself!"

Fayer is a rare kind of human called a "Scrap Recycler". These rare few don't run on food or water, they were born with the need to feast on machinery and scraps of metal for substance. Most of these kind of people live alone, like Fayer, and hunt for scraps of metal to eat, because if they don't, they WILL die.

"Well, there's breakfast... wonder what I'll find for lunch?" Fayer asked himself as he casually strolled back to his home, killing a rabbit for Ace along the way.
